In October of 2009, Flynner Homes & Renovations had the rare opportunity to raise money for the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital by building a net-zero energy house for the St Jude Dream House Giveaway. The home will be built, donated and raffled off as a fundraiser for St. Jude and it will also be among the nation’s most energy-efficient homes ever built and the first verified Net-Zero Home in Idaho (achieving a HERS index of 0). The house will also be certified green under the NAHB green program and achieve a Gold level status. For the price of a $100 ticket, one person will own a home equipped with the latest energy-efficiency elements in construction. This home will, will over the course of a year, generate as much energy as it consumes, delivering on the net-zero concept of no overall energy consumption and eliminating electricity bills for the future homeowner.

The following are some of the construction items that will make the home net-zero:

• 14 inch exterior wall system
• Triple-pane windows, < 0.2 U-factor
• R-77 insulation in ceiling and R-60 in exterior walls
• HVAC system: Diakin ductless air-to-air 4-port mini-split
• Solar water heating system
• Heat recovery ventilator (HRV)
• R-40 insulated slab on grade and R-15 insulated foundation system
• 8.2 KW/hr photovoltaic system (solar panels)

The house is located in the Willowgreens community and is valued at approximately $440,000. Tickets for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway will be available beginning April 1, 2010. Tickets will be available throughout the Treasure Valley area at Zamzows, Lowe’s and Pioneer Title Company. The home will be open the weekends of May 22nd through June 27th and raffled off on June 27, 2010. From State Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway head west on State Street. Your next stop light is Willow Lane. Turn south (left) onto Willow Lane and head down to the end. Address is 4859 West Willow Lane.
